Yoga Nidra, also known as Psychic Sleep, or the Yogic Sleep, is a specific dreamscape practise designed to enable the release of unconscious tensions from the mind. For those who believe in Psycho-Somatic Health, this practise can be very impactful upon illnesses that manifest in the body. Further, it is commonly recommended for Pre-Natal women, and is almost always used in Children's Yoga. My own experience suggests that all humans store stress and mental tension and that anyone can benefit from this lovely practise. Yoga Nidra usually takes place with people lying down, comfortable, still, with their eyes closed. A narrator will describe images, body parts, feelings, colours; all will lead the mind along a particular course, as the mind starts floating, and moving from thought to thought, idea to idea. The main gesture here relates to Jnana Yoga and Consciousness, and how everything in our Reality is a Metaphor for Meaning. The unconscious attachment to Concept is gently massaged by the dreaming that occurs with this practise - it is not only triggered but also allowed to be released. Most people find Yoga Nidra deeply relaxing and this experience can provide wonderful benefits to their mood and sense of calm. Things become quiet, light, and soft. I often use this practise during a Yoga Class, and if people request it, I will do it more often. Yoga Nidra CDs Available - Click Here Yoga Nidra Book - Click here |
