Howdy cowdy
Don't forget to breathe as you start thinking about Christmas.

If you've got Hay Fever madness
be aware that using nasal sprays is like pouring concrete
into your nose and has serious emotional, psychological,
and physical (restrictive) ramifications for your health.
It will actually affect your behaviour.
Remember that there are natural remedies,
(such as the Neti Pot)
which, when put in place long term, have surprising
health benefits beyond hay fever.

CHILDREN'S STORY

This is one of my Yoga Bear stories,
if you've got kids 4-10 they may love being read to in bed:

DREAM NO.7
(Trains)
10 minutes

You and Yoga Bear are sweeping the floor of the old barn.
There’s hay everywhere because the pigs had a party last night and nobody cleaned up. The horses must have been dancing because there are saddles and straps hanging off the edge of the barn door, and even the cows seem to have left their milk bottles in the corner.

One of the hens walks in, and looks very tired. She asks if anyone has seen her blue dress, and then a rooster screams out from behind the cupboard, because he’s wearing it! He runs out of the barn with stockings over his head, and the hen chases him with a stick.

Yoga Bear says it’s time to take a break, and so we put the brooms aside and stand out front, each with a glass of water in our hand. Yoga Bear says we should go on an adventure, and you ask him what he’s got in mind. He tells you to close your eyes and imagine you’ve gone back in time - 100 years ago - to the big city of London, England.

You open your eyes, and find yourself standing with Yoga Bear, in the middle of London outside a train station. Yoga Bear is wearing an old-fashioned brown suit, with a cap, and you’ve got a football jumper on, and footy boots. No-one seems to notice this, as people
rush past on their way to work. There’s a big clock up above, and it says it is ten minutes past 10.

NUTRITION
with Hayley Moulds

The supermarket is stocking more and more exotic fruits.
Most of these fruits are becoming more common.
Some of these fruits and vegetables currently under the hot spot include:
Pomegranate - Considered to be one of nature's wonder foods as it is
naturally high in anti-oxidants, which help to destroy free radicals in the body, which cause aging, cell damage and prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancers. Available fresh, but has an aquired taste.
Try it as a juice.
Dragonfruit -high in dietary fibre, and also provides natural protection against heart disease. They also naturally form a digestive enzyme helping the body to break food down; lastly their signature health benefit is their ability to breakdown cholesterol that builds up on blood vessel wall. Available fresh and is often an ingredient in juices.
Acai - A purple berry which originates from Brazil: has a long list of benefits such as increased energy and stamina, improved mental focus and better sleep.  It also has 10 times the antioxidants of red grapes. But be wary, these berries if juiced are very perishable and if they are not consumed in the first 24 hours of being picked they begin to lose there nutritional benefits. So try purchasing them as a frozen pulp. This is the most stable form to maximise their health benefits.

So next time you out and about try something new!

INDIA AND THE GANGES

There's been a great documentary on India
and the River Ganges - on the ABC1 - Sunday 7.30.
The last (3rd) part will be on this coming Sunday.

The Ganges river flows alongside Varanasi
- the city I lived for almost a year studying Yoga.

The Ganges supports 10% of the world's population,
and is by far the most polluted waterway in the world.

A KEY TO HAPPINESS

Thanks to Carmela, I learned a new Buddhist approach
to life and other people, which I personally found to be exceptional:

It's the notion that No-one has any less right than you
to do or think or feel what they do.
Many people get angry, frustrated, hurt...about what others
do or do not do. This understanding eliminates that problem.

No-one has any more right either.
This applies to any situation.

ASTROLOGY

Watch out,
On Friday 23rd October at 5.45pm
we enter the zodiac stage of Scorpio.

Scorpio: Ardent and intense, driven by purposes not easily
understood by others, the 'Scorpion' depicts the necessity
of Self-Protection.

Therapeutically, all Scorpios really need do,
to make things easier for themselves and others,
is to breathe a bit more deeply - more often -
listen to people other than from the position of DEFENCE,
and express their emotions a bit more honestly.
They may not remain as attractive though.

2009 Astrological Calendar + Moon Planting Guide,

HEALTH REPORT
from Doctor Qu'ac

BREATHING

It still amazes me how little western Medicine understands
the intrinsic link between a person's Breathing,
and their physical and emotional health.

Every time I teach Corporate Yoga
I can't believe how ALL the corporates are bad at breathing.
This exposes the clear reality: a life lived
under constant stress, demand, and pressure,
will be poor for one's health.

The breath is the place to go for all health tests.
It's so obvious to me in the Yoga room.
How people breathe determines their Health
- mental, emotional, and physical.

Anyone who is sick will not be breathing well.
Anyone who is angry will not be breathing well.
The same applies, for Worry, Fear, Insecurity, Schizophrenia,
Depression, Anxiety, Cancer, Headaches, Asthma...etc...

Pranayama is the Yogic tool to fix all illnesses.
Why? Because it directly focusses upon breathing.
A sustained practice in advanced Breath-work
will gradually erode any health problem.

Every Thursday we have a lovely morning Pranayama class:
6.30am - 8.00. It's so gentle, relaxing, and produces dramatic
and quite unexpected results.

GARDENING/HORTICULTURE
with Suzanne Harper

Tomatoes are one of the most popular homegrown vegetables,
and now is the perfect time of year to consider planting.
One of the beautiful things about growing your own produce,
such as tomatoes, is that it enables you to limit the use of pesticides
in their production. Although insect pests may be a problem
in your home garden, there are many chemical-free ways
to prevent these insects from damaging your fruit.

Slugs can be controlled using a 'beer trap,'
which is simply a glass jar tilted on its side and placed on the ground
around your plants. Just fill the jar with a few centimetres of beer,
and as the smell of beer attracts slugs they will be drawn
into the container where they are unable to crawl out.
Empty the jar every two days into your compost pile,
along with the dead slugs, and refill with beer.

Another great way to control tomato insect pests is to plant marigolds
(such as giant French marigolds which have a strong scent)
or basil in amongst your tomato plants,
as these plants give off a scent that repel insects and bugs,
keeping them away from your plants. They also provide a habitat
for beneficial insects ('good' insects that eat the pestiferous insects)
and are both edible!
