Greetings Earthlings
Welcome to another year of eating, sleeping, reading,
watching, breathing, and washing!

Despite a holiday period of variation
the world is still here, and it's back to routine
which some people love and some detest!

A CALL TO ARMS!

Another year in our lives has already started
and it's up to us, now, as adults, to decide how we're going to be.

Still haven't dealt completely with your past, your childhood, or your parents?
Well you can expect everyone in your life to bear the burden
of what you have not wanted to deal with.

Take your time as you need, but also take responsibility for that.

Those who last year put in place some great steps
towards health, and Awareness, can now really go to the next level.
I feel very excited about what is possible this year.

It's never too late to start becoming healthy and Self-Aware.
The benefits are unrivalled. All the best!

MEDITATION

There is no better health practice than this.
Meditation will fix every problem a person can have.

Many people think that meditation is about 'not thinking'.
They obviously haven't tried it much.

We're all going to be obsessively thinking, always...
this is not a problem. The point is that we are STOPPING,
being STILL, and taking time to have a look.

It's very useful to see what your mind is always thinking about,
and then work out WHY you are still worrying about that...

Anyone who's into Denial will not want to meditate.

Stillness Meditation - a Yogic practice -  requires nothing other
than being still and NOT DOING ANYTHING.
People are always doing things. In this instance, it's time to NOT.

Remain quiet, and start watching/listening.
The more you do this, the more time will slow down,
and the more PERSPECTIVE you will gain.
Everything will change from there.

NEW MEDIUM AT LAND OF YOGA!
COUNSELLING MASSAGE

Why not enjoy a counselling session?
Now, any personal counselling with Toby
will be held on the massage table.

It's a great way to get a full release,
to talk about worries and problems,
and have the tension taken away at the same time!

The massage is done WITH CLOTHES ON,
on the massage table. It's usually pretty strong and deep,
getting right into the tight areas especially around the back and shoulders.

In the meantime, we can talk about whatever is important.
Toby has years of experience in psychology and behaviour,
and uses Yogic wisdoms which can so easily clarify situations.

All problems are merely opportunities.
Plus a massage is nice.

Charge: $50 per hour.

REPORT:

Carmela Quimbo
recently went to Nepal to live in a Tibetan Monastery
for 5 weeks, practising Tibetan Buddhism.

I’ve recently completed a month long meditation retreat at Kopan Monastery in Nepal.  It’s a famous course, held every November for almost 40 years.  I bet if you Googled it you would find adjectives like “life changing” “magical” and “wonderful”.  I have used the same words to express how I feel about Kopan.  So what made it wonderful?

The retreat was boot camp for the mind.  The regimented daily routine of prostrations, karma yoga (yoga through service to others), teachings, group discussions and meditations was structured to “cut the fat” off our minds instead of our bodies.  All activities were designed to teach us how to trim anger, jealousy and selfishness from our essentially peaceful minds.

Meditation is of course the key. In Tibetan, the word “meditation” is closer to the English word “familiarisation”.  How do we become familiar with something? By doing it repeatedly and regularly.  Through the exercise of meditation, we gently began to train our minds to form habits that lead to happiness.  We familiarised ourselves with love, compassion and wisdom.  And that is wonderful.

Does anyone know where my big
Psycho-Somatic book is?
It's out on loan to someone
and it's been a while.

If it's you, please bring it back asap,
so that other people can use it. Thanks, T.

ASTROLOGY

This year started with a Full Moon, at 6.15am.
That is rare.

On Wednesday 20th at 3.30pm
we enter the phase of Aquarius.
AQUARIUS: The Mental Pioneers.
"Our role is to map out possibilities for the future,
to think outside the bounds of conventionality".

Usually pretty charming characters, intelligent (AIR SIGNS),
maybe better at talking rather than doing (!).
Creative, attractive personalities, usually aware of this.
An aquarius child would be amusing to watch, I'd reckon!

It might be a good idea this year for an Aquarian
to take on a grand project and follow through with it
in the practical world, and complete the project.

Everyone would benefit from this.

2009 Astrological Calendar + Moon Planting Guide,

HEALTH REPORT
from Doctor Qu'ac

CRAMPS

Old school thought has it that cramps are often caused by lack of salt,
and modern sports science expands that to 'electrolytes'.
Extreme actions such as running or hiking will often expose
what is often a residual weakness, ie: the sport is not the Cause.

A Yogic approach would include the following knowledge:

A cramp is a muscular convulsion, a spasm,
whereby the muscle is pulled sharply by the nervous system.
Never random (in yogic terms), the main forthcoming questions are:
1. Where in the body is the cramp, and 2. Why?
Eg: Why would a human body need to suddenly + drastically contract its calf?

Psycho-somatically, the leg relates to any subject linked with 'taking steps',
'moving forwards in life'; and is often simplified as making a decision/change.

When a human becomes obsessive, anxious, about moving forwards in their life,
making a change, changing direction, taking a big step...they will experience
psychological tension and doubt. Instantly, the body's muscles will reflect that tension,
exactly in the place where its own structures relate.

Many people have tight hips, hamstrings, calf muscles, ankles, feet;
and this is a good example of consistent obsessive anxiety.
...but a cramp is a drastic spasm, a convulsion, in this area.

I would describe this as a moment of ...PANIC...Doubt...Hesitation.

Most people are obsessive control-freaks. They desperately - and constantly -
try to control everything in their lives, what comes in, what goes out,
what results, what can be avoided. And of course, they will panic at times,
if they fear results they can't avoid, and don't want.

If this is true, it's simple: Trust what comes, trust what is,
stop trying to control everything, enjoy and embrace everything that is;
make your decisions, and then Act upon them.

A person who lives like this is unlikely to get cramps.

*Note: Menstruation cramps will fit into this notion too,
but not in relation to step-taking, choice-making.
The uterus has a different function for the body.
So what would that function be? Anyone?

GARDENING/HORTICULTURE
with Suzanne Harper

French beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) are one of the easiest vegetables to grow in your home garden and produce an abundance of fruit for the space they use. Beans can be planted as seeds or seedlings. Commercial bean farms often use a fungicide treatment on bean seeds prior to sowing as the seeds are susceptible to fungus damage. In the home garden this can be prevented by simply avoiding over-watering before the seeds germinate as waterlogged soil only encourages fungal growth. Bean plants are also susceptible to attack from slugs and thrips (a tiny and comon flying insect) and to wind damage. Using slug-traps and companion planting with majoram or parsley will help eliminate these pests. Planting a taller plant such as corn along the edges of your vegie patch will also help prevent wind damage to all your home-grown vegetables, and should ensure straight, blemish-free and organically delicious beans this summer.
