* 23/11/09 * Hi, the warm weather has been perfect for deep Yoga sessions, slow, using the heat to open up muscles, and to take longer breaks with deep relaxation. Awesome! If you feel tired, it doesn't mean the class can't be refreshing and repleneshing. Keep an eye on stress levels as December comes, and remember that 5 mins of STOPPING is the healthiest practice any human can undertake. Being still, being quiet, breathing slowly. All else falls naturally into place. * YOUR EVERY DAY This is a very advanced notion about Health, and realistically, most people won't believe it is true: Every day, your life is playing out your body (if you do Raja [therapeutic] Yoga); otherwise, every day, your body is playing out your life. In fact, this all mostly applies to adults. When a person lives their life, from a very early childhood age, every moment of stress, doubt, fear, or anxiety is experienced as Tension. Every instant this feeling occurs - it is a Knowledge - the body takes on the impact. The cells learn. Quite simply, every day, your body is learning the impact of what you experience each day, your freedoms, and your constraints. And your body bears this impact and harbours it. Your body is playing out your life. This discussion goes to the next level when we understand how a regular therapeutic practice can reverse this whole process. Then we can see how every session of such therapy is actually unlocking the past...and naturally this must be played out, emotionally and psychologically. A good meditator knows to watch what happens after a Raja Yoga session. For their day is playing out their body. This is where the advanced understanding of Consciousness comes in. Your day is merely an extension of your body's and Mind's rhythms. NUTRITION with Hayley Moulds FOOD SAFETY
Keeping food safe at home has been a priority in the development
of the Dietary Guidelines for Australians. In hot weather we have a greater risk of giving ourselves or our family food poisioning. Here are some tips in keeping your food safe this summer. * Defrost food in the fridge. This keeps food out of the danger zone (5-60 degrees) which is where food poisoning agents rapidly grow. * Make sure you dont leave food in the car on hot days especially deli meats and cheeses. * Don't reheat food more than once. * Put food in the fridge as soon as possible to avoid food being exposed to the danger zone. * Don't leave salads with meat or creamy dresses out in the warmth. * Cook meats above 60 degrees to destroy food poisoning agents. Nothing is better in summer is beautifully prepared and cooked food. This is more Chinese medicine I guess, and there will always be explanations for every organs particular emotional/psychological links. Click here to see it * UPCOMING WORKSHOP ENTER THE YOGA DREAM Sunday December 6th 10-3pm Cost $26/$22 A deep Yogic experience. More poses, more body parts, more breath-practices, more meditation, much deeper resting. Some of us may also try to detox during this session, by drinking litres of water throughout, and giving the body an internal cleanse. No Bookings required for this session, just turn up. The normal 10am-12 class runs: some leave after that, others stay... * POSE FOR THE WEEK The Headstand I was busking in Bourke St this weekend, as Yoga Bear, on a yoga mat doing a normal Yoga session, wearing my bear suit. It then occurred to me to do the headstand. It's amazing how much attention this pose gets. Many people, and kids especially, watch in wonder. Everyone finds certain poses easy, and for me, the headstand is such a pose. I find it quite relaxing. The first Yoga class I ever did was in India, and the teacher suddenly had me in the pose, holding me. I didn't even know what it was! This showed me that it is not necessarily an exclusive practice. It can fix fever, and also headaches. It is great for clearing the lymphatic system, and cardiac system. By turning the body upside down - in a relaxed way, of course - the body's muscles get to fall upwards, and release tensions otherwise fixed (especially tight back muscles). The body re-organises, and the best thing for me is that the blood in my head gets cleaned through the cells; my eyes and brain get a fresh load of oxygen. It also releases tension in the head, which can build up otherwise to cause headaches, pressure in the sinuses... There are many easy versions, mild ways, of doing the headstand. It's very achievable for most people. * CHRISTMAS TIMETABLE Classes will run as normal up to and including Tuesday 22nd Dec 7.30pm class. (This will be the last class). There will be one session on Wed 3oth Dec 6.30-8pm. Then everything returns to normal on Saturday 2nd January 2010, with the usual 8.30am and then 10.30am classes. (Kids Classes return on January 22nd) Not on the Email List? Want to receive Timetable alerts and this Newsletter? Philosophical and outspoken, optimistic that things will work out for the best, the 'Archer' depicts life viewed as an ADVENTURE. Usually charismatic types, attractive personalities, good fun at parties, not necessarily great to depend upon..! Enjoyably superficial, Sagittarians provide great short-term inspiration! Find yourself a Sagittarian friend, you'll be glad more often than not. (Parts taken from the 2009 Astrological Calendar + Moon Planting Guide, Alle Davidson-Farnworth and Dorothy Maniero) * HEALTH REPORT from Doctor Qu'ac HAY FEVER REPORT I've been using the Neti Pot (water - nose cleaner) every morning and for most of Spring I've barely sneezed. (I used to have shocking Hay Fever and relied upon daily anti-hystamines). There was a week when the weather got very warm, and in this time I did sneeze heaps, but then upped my neti pot washing to 3x a day. Now I'm back to barely sneezing again. One thing I discovered is that if I do sneeze, I quickly go and wash the salt water through my nose, and I don't get a build up of phlegm in the following half hour. One aspect of this Neti practice: in order to get the water flowing easily, one must learn to relax the muscles on the inner walls of the nose and sinus region. This is a great skill to develop because it releases the tension inside the skull. (This type of tension is often what causes congestion and headaches). Want to try the Neti Pot? Toby has them at Land of Yoga, $30. They will change your life. Any Questions for Doctor Qu'ac? Current water restrictions mean we cannot use tap water to water our gardens. However, there are several other ways to keep our plants and vegetables healthy and happy over these hot, dry summer months. Firstly, using 'grey' water is a cheap and environmentally friendly way to re-use water and is as simple as collecting shower and washing-machine water for use in the garden. Just make sure that you try and avoid detergents high in phosphorus and sodium as, in large amounts, these can be harmful to both your plants and yourself. Another great water-saving idea for the garden is to incorporate compost and organic matter into your soils. These improve soil structure, provide nutrients (naturally reducing the need for inorganic fertilisers) and improve the water holding capacity of the soil, meaning that more water will be held by the soil for uptake by your plants. Mulching also prevents water loss through evaporation. These easy and cost effective measures will help your plants and our waterways stay healthy and strong this summer. Any Questions for Doctor Suzanne? Please Email Suzanne * Thanks everyone, don't forget to breathe as Christmas anxiety starts creeping! All the best, Toby xx
