* 18/05/10 * Hi there everyone, as it gets cold remember to eat well, dress well, rest well, and keep your body (and Mind) clean. * THE FIVE ALL-ENCOMPASSING ASPECTS OF REAL HEALTH: 1. Proper Diet - this might be obvious to any mature human. 2. Proper Asana - this means, proper use of one's body. In Yoga that might mean a proper approach to stretching (asana), but in Life this really means a proper management and use of one's body at all times. Exhausting oneself, neglecting one's body, abusing one's body...none of these would apply. 3. Proper Breathing - any real expert in Health knows this. Unless a human has EXCELLENT breathing, they can never have excellent health. All health conditions directly impact upon the breathing, and regular breath-work will show how obvious this is. 4. Proper Relaxation - In the same way that a 'proper' Yoga class includes lots of resting, the same applies in life: If a human is not getting appropriate rest, then there is no way they can have Health. 5. Positive and Meditative Mind - many people are instinctively Negative and until this stops they will neither be Happy nor Healthy. But further, a meditative Mind is vital for Real Health. A neurotic compulsive obsessive mind is the opposite of this. The Meditative Mind has awareness, perspective, and Balance. In summary, unless all of these Five elements exist as NORMAL for any human, then it is impossible for them to have Health. * PROPER STRETCHING Once again Buttercup shows us the true nature of deep Relaxation: ![]() And to reinforce this fine art: ![]() * TIMETABLE ALERT! A NEW CLASS HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE TIMETABLE: Saturday 4.00pm - 5.30 (with Carmela). Carmela has been doing teacher training, and is now ready to take over a regular class. She also has excellent training in Tibetan Buddhim and teaches Meditation classes in the city. I'm sure she will add some of this knowledge to her Yoga classes. * I AM THAT It's very rare that I would feel the need to hold back from sharing ideas about liberation, happiness, freedom, etc... and yet with this discussion I feel slightly that-way inclined. Maybe because it's so simple, or maybe because I know that most people will be very likely to reject the ideas as unbelievable...thereby making the discussion fairly ineffective...in short, I know people will reject this idea because they won't like it. With that in mind, "I am That" by Nisargadatta Maharaj seems to me to be the most all-encompassing explanation of awareness, and in many ways it sweeps through or eradicates the need for most philosophical books, religions, wisdoms, insights, etc... The main premise is that all One need do is realise that they are the whole universe. That this world is purely a creation of one's own mind. That everything which happens inside our world is not in the slightest bit Real. And that by realising this every problem can be solved within minutes. Personally, I get the notion completely, and since learning of it, have found my whole life to be so much easier, so much clearer, so simple... and that I know exactly what to do, that I can start to see my world changing, and best of all - that I can relinquish Conscious responsibility for control. The positive ramifications are boundless. For example, the way to stop/fix ANY illness, such as Cancer, is to release your body from your mind. Simple. This is guaranteed to work. Now who would believe that? I'll be getting copies of 'I am That' from India in the next month or two. They are normally $55 in the Theosophical Society Bookshop, but I expect to be able to get them for about $35-40. * ANTARCTICA! Michael Norton has just been to Antarctica and has only just got back. Here is his version of the experience, with stunning photos attached: "Where to begin? I have so many thoughts and emotions swirling around my head right now. It has been an incredible and humbling journey to Antarctica and it's hard to believe my long term dream of visiting ‘the white continent’ has been fulfilled. It's Wednesday the 17th of March and our last full day aboard our trusty Russian vessel, the Akademik Ioffe, as we traverse the wild Drake Passage. I feel absolutely and completely exhausted. The expedition schedule has been relentless. Every day has been spent making numerous excursions on the land and waters of Antarctica. With the exceptionally good weather we've had (excluding the crossing of the Drake Passage) there have been countless opportunities to experience the natural wonders of this beautiful place." Most people know by now that this session is quite 'do-able' for many different people of different abilities. The session is simply a deeper, extended version of a normal class with more poses, more practices, and much more Breath-work and Meditation. IT ALWAYS INCLUDES PROPER RESTING. It includes a thorough movement through the stages of Yoga: Asana (stretching), Breath-work (Pranayama), and Meditation (Dyan). Cost $26/22. No Bookings required for this session. * ASTROLOGY Yesterday Friday the 21st at 1.36pm we entered the sun sign of Gemini. GEMINI: The quick-witted Communicators, our role is to make things happen, by linking up people and resources with hot information. Avid conversationalists - though you may find them talking at you rather than with you - Geminis have high intelligence and lots of ideas. Being an Air sign, they could quite possibly be the least reliable and grounded of all the Sun Signs - not that this need be a problem. Perfect for cafe's and family functions, they can dance with anyone mentally and make you laugh. This year Geminis will do well to write down their plans in a diary and refer back to these later. Geminis can save the world, if they can follow through. For them it would be a good idea this year to take time to meditate daily. The Moon enters Sagittarius on Friday 28th June at 9.07AM. (Some parts taken from the 2009 Astrological Calendar + Moon Planting Guide, Alle Davidson-Farnworth and Dorothy Maniero) * HEALTH REPORT from Doctor Qu'ac LOWER BACK PROBLEMS The lower back - psycho-somatically - relates to the following topic in life: "Carrying everything, managing everything, having to be responsible for everything..." The lower back muscles are responsible for supporting the whole mainframe of the body, arms (everything we do), head (everything we need to think about), digestion, vital organs... Going deeper into the Mind it can be seen - with years of Meditation - that some people really believe that the Universe and the life they live is solely dependent on the way they think; eg: "Don't think bad thoughts", "Things will change if I remain positive"; "If only I'd..."; "If I'm good then my life will work". These people are literally taking on the burden of their own lives onto their own backs. These people will be very responsible, very hard on themselves, and not good listeners. They'll also be the types who refuse other people's help, and want to 'get the job done' themselves. They think that they have to do everything themselves to CONTROL things. Therefore, whenever life becomes a struggle, frustrating, or difficult, they will get lower back problems. And these states persist over decades. Solution: Unless such people are able to really get it that they are not 'responsible' for the universe and everything that happens in their lives, at least one simple technique is to start DELEGATING more. This means: inviting other people to help, participate and contribute. This is an 'offloading' of responsibility. It is sharing the load. You can still grow plenty of vegetables and herbs. The extra rainfall is great for your garden in general, so keep on looking after the plants as things grow. Cover your garden beds in mulch (like pea straw or sugar cane mulch) to keep the plants warm and deter weeds. Good herbs to plant now include: parsley, coriander, lemon verbena, lemon balm, Vietnamese mint, peppermint and rocket Good veggies to plant now include: onions, garlic, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, spinach, silverbeet, beetroot, cabbage, broad beans and peas Plant rhubarb, asparagus, potatoes and leeks in mid winter. * Thanks for listening, rug up this winter and wear Hats!
